With the development of information technology, RFID technology has been widely used in all walks of life. In the development of libraries, it has always been the library industry's pursuit to allow administrators and readers to easily enjoy the convenience brought by technology. Traditionally, library management systems mostly use a combination of "barcode + magnetic stripe" technology to manage books and periodicals. The security magnetic strip is used as the security guarantee of the book, and the bar code is used as the identity mark of the book. However, inherent flaws in barcode technology make book management inconvenient and error-prone. To prevent barcode damage, barcodes are generally pasted inside books, and each barcode needs to be scanned individually. Therefore, when inventorying, positioning, shelving, and borrowing books, each book must be opened to scan the barcode, which makes book management cumbersome and greatly reduces work efficiency. The emergence of RFID technology has brought opportunities for intelligent services to library book management and personnel management. This article uses UHF RFID technology to research and practice smart libraries with certain intelligent services.
The emergence of RFID radio frequency identification technology has effectively solved the shortcomings of barcode management books. RFID is considered to be one of the ten most viable technologies in the past 30 years. The core features of RFID suitable for libraries :
1) Non-contact reading: RFID tags can be read through non-metallic materials, completing the identification work without manual intervention and realizing automation.
2) Large data storage capacity: RFID tags have large data storage capacity. The data on the tag can be encrypted, updated at any time, readable and writable. It is especially suitable for storing large amounts of data or when the data required to be stored on items changes frequently.
3) Fast reading and writing speed. RFID technology can identify high-speed moving objects and identify multiple tags at the same time, making the operation quick and convenient.
4) High data security. In addition to password protection, the data part of the tag can be securely managed using some algorithms, such as DES, RSA, DSA, MD5, etc. The reader and the electronic tag can also authenticate each other to achieve secure communication and storage.
5) Small size and easy to package. RF electronic tags can be hidden in most materials or products. Ultra-thin and various shapes of different sizes can only be easily packaged on products, making them very convenient to use.
6) The recognition distance is long. The distance between the data carrier and the reader can reach tens of meters.
7) No wear and long service life. The device has no physical interface directly open to end users, which can better ensure device security, has a service life of more than 10 years, and can be read and written up to 100,000 times.
8) High environmental adaptability. The RFID reader can read tags through mud, dirt, paint, oil, wood, cement, plastic, water and steam, making it an ideal choice for a variety of harsh environments. Its operating temperature can be between -25~ +70ºC.
RFID radio frequency technology can be used to improve the informatization level of libraries. The realization of functions such as automatic book inventory, self-service borrowing and returning of books, regional positioning of books, and automatic sorting of books has become a common concern for libraries and readers.
